Somatic Movement & Yoga

We are lucky to have two highly qualified somatic movement specialists to support your nervous system regulation and flexibility.

Somatic Movement

The body is so often neglected when it comes to therapeutic approaches. But at DL, we know the importance of tapping into the innate wisdom within our body. And we see movement as an incredible adjunct to more traditional therapeutic modalities.

Movement has a direct relationship with the nervous system and can help us release and process trauma. And find more focus and clarity in our thinking.

When we are attuned to our bodies through somatic movement - that is, connecting to our bodies internally - we can powerfully shift trauma, shame, and grief.

Movement helps us initiate action to get out of a freeze state, and calm us when we are agitated and activated in a fight/flight state.

You can find out more about our movement classes below. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to get in touch by clicking the button.

A few things for your consideration:

  • Somatic movement is designed to work on your specific needs, whether you are experiencing trauma, nervous system dysregulation, inflammation or other concerns

  • It is slow, and centred on focusing inward on your inner experience

  • Sometimes emotions can be released quite powerfully which may make you feel shaky, tearful, or may stir up other emotions or sensations. We will look after you and encourage you to tell us if a particular movement is taking you to a place that feels unsafe in that moment. We will advise you on what to do and ensure we bring you back to a place of socially engaged nervous system regulation

Somatic movement can help with the following neurodivergent concerns:

  • Emotional upheaval, trauma, grief, and shame

  • Problems with sleeping or staying asleep as we are working on balancing cortisol levels

  • Inflammation and symptoms of chronic pain

  • Is suitable for people with hypermobility syndrome, Ehlers Danlos syndrome, dysautonomia, POTS, fibromyalgia and ME as we will adapt classes to support joint function and balance

Our Movement Classes

  • Somatic Yoga

One-to-one, 45 minute, online somatic yoga. Supporting safety in the nervous system and emotional regulation.

Bringing a deep connection to our neuroceptive (cues of safety) and interoceptive (cues of bodily function) signals.

Somatic yoga is slow and gentle, allowing for a mindful connection to self. We spend longer in each pose, finding a restorative peace through the breath.

Ideal for shifting us out of functional freeze and safe for people experiencing burnout.

    £70 per session / £600 for 10

  • Somatic Flow

A slightly more energised one-to-one online class. 45 minutes bringing in techniques from yoga, Pilates, breathwork, and somatic movement to restore and rebalance.

We do short sequences of flowing movement, carefully choreographed to be personalised to your needs.

Somatic flow is slightly more energetic, allowing for a greater shift to equilibrium or ventral vagal state.

Ideal for people whose nervous system can't work with slow movement, while still supporting a rebalancing of cortisol.

    £70 per session / £600 for 10

  • Group Somatic Yoga

A 60 minute online group class that is a blend of Yin Yoga inspired movement and somatic techniques. The aim is to co-regulate together and form a shared bond as we move as a group. While bringing greater awareness to the body and mind connection.

Designed to be suitable for all levels with adjustments provided in cases of injury, hypermobility, POTS, fibromyalgia, and dysautonomia. And trauma centred for safety for all neurotypes.

Ideal for people who want to regulate their nervous system within a group setting.

    £10 pp / session

  • Group In Person Somatic Yoga

Coming Soon! This will be a 60 minute, monthly, in person class held in Cambridgeshire, venue to be confirmed.

The power of working as a group connecting to the nervous system in co-regulation is incredible.

We will offer a peaceful, restorative session, bringing in elements of somatic yoga, Pilates, breathwork and flow.

Ideal for people living in Cambridgeshire who want to connect with likeminded people. We will close with a herbal tea.

Q&A

  • Yes you can, although we as that you pay for three upfront and then we can form a payment plan for the rest.

  • We have two qualified yoga teachers, Claire and Jolene. Who you have your class with will depend on availability and exactly what your needs are.

  • We suggest either weekly or fortnightly, but it is best to attend weekly if you can. This is so that you get as much benefit from your classes as possible because nervous system regulation takes time to become comfortable within the body.

  • It depends on the injury, but we are usually able to adapt the class to your needs. However, we can discuss this at your free 15 minute consultation to see if this is something we can work around.

We cannot take responsibility for any injuries you don't tell us about, or you haven't shared in full.

  • Wear whatever you feel comfortable in so long as you can move freely.

  • You will need a yoga mat, even if you are coming to an in person class. These can be purchased online or from some supermarkets and are relatively inexpensive. Please also have a towel or yoga blocks handy. For a full kit list, please download our info pack using the button above this Q&A.

Please also make sure you have water on hand, and a pillow and blanket for relaxation at the end of the session.

As we will be doing restorative forms of yoga and movement, having a couple of large pillows to hand is really helpful for propping the body to help you relax.
